KAYAKING IN DUCK FLATS

After a pre-trip safety briefing, equipment fitting and a short paddling lesson we'll embark on a remarkable kayak excursion. Launching from the small boat harbor, we'll spend the next several hours paddling around Duck Flats and Old Town Valdez.

You will visit the Mineral Creek Islands, home of black oystercatcher and arctic tern nesting sites, see harbor seals hauled out on rock outcropping and bald eagles nests in the adjacent Sitka spruce forest.

Duck Flats is a bird watchers paradise, a nursery for juvenile salmon, nesting ground for mallards, galdweall, widgeons anf teals, and an important destination during spring bird migration.

Our journey continues to Old Town Valdez where your guide will give you a short history of the town, Gold Rush and the 1964 earthquake. We'll return to the Small Boat Harbor.
