HAINES 'VALLEY OF THE
EAGLES' TOUR WITH LUNCH
$133 Per Person
After you cross the fjord from Skagway to Haines by fast ferry, you will
board a comfortable bus, and ride along the coastline, where many types of
wildlife make their home. By no means think that the ferry is just
transporting you because you may have some fabulous sightings along the
way. Just the feel of the land rising around the edges of the fjord is
exciting.
The
next part of your journey will take you through prime bear habitat along
the glacial river which, in spring, is lined with wildflowers and berries.
In the summer, you might have a great chance to watch the Alaskan brown
bear catching lunch in the stream as the salmon run. You will be passing
by the home for whales, seals, porpoises, eagles and a menagerie of shore
birds.
At the location where the fresh-water lake meets the salty ocean, you can
disembark the coach and venture on a refreshing walk through an old growth
forest. This is an unstrenuous walk and guided by naturalists who will
share their stories of the relationship between the plants and animals.
A buffet-style lunch is served and everyone will find a favorite in its
deli selections including sliced roast beef, turkey, several types of
cheese slices, chips, big chocolate chip cookies, lemonade, coffee, tea,
2-3 types of bread, lettuce, tomato, onion, and orange wedge. Their bread
continues to get rave reviews. The amount of time for lunch is determined
by the wildlife sightings, which are highlight of the day.
