WHITE PASS TRAIN UP AND
BIKE DOWN
$160 Per Person
The area surrounding Skagway is impressive, as the city occupies a narrow
plain along the mouth of the Skagway River. It looks like it is driving a
wedge into the slopes that lead to White Pass. The forest is lush and
green and the Alpines are growing closer to sea level so you will get
great views. You will get the idea if you chose to take this tour, a
combination of the best of Skagway.
The first leg of the trip takes place on board the famous White Pass
Railway, one of the only operating narrow-gauge railroads in North
American. You'll have a narrated ride, with history about the Gold Rush as
you tour. You will climb from sea level up to White Pass, a 2,865-foot
elevation, and the vistas get better and better, as you get higher.
As you disembark the train at the Fraser Station, a van will be waiting to
take you to the top of White Pass, just a 15-minute shuttle, to the start
of your biking adventure.
Once
at the top of the pass, you will receive a bicycle and safety orientation.
Experienced guides will escort you from the summit to the sea on the
Klondike Road. You will be cruising as you make your way down the 15 miles
of mountain road.
Many enjoyable stops will be made along the way so you can take photos of
the waterfalls, the White Pass Railroad, glaciers from above, and the
mountains surrounding you. As the weather in Skagway is considerably drier
than other parts of the Southeast, especially before mid-July, this is a
great place to plan a bike ride and a unique way to tour Skagway and the
surrounding area.
