KETCHIKAN DOUBLE-DECKER
CITY AND
SAXMAN TOTEM VILLAGE TOUR
$37 Per Person
These
double-decker buses are perfect for a city known as one of the rainiest
places in Alaska. Weather will determine if you wish to be on top or
comfortably dry below. Either way, you will have a great view and clear
narration of Ketchikan's colorful history as you pass through its charming
streets.
Much of Ketchikan is built on fill, on pilings over the water, or on
hillsides with steep winding ramps for streets. We felt it the most
charming of all the towns we saw in Alaska as it's success hasn't
overshadowed it's reality, a great fishing and logging town.
You’ll explore the famous Ketchikan waterfront including Creek Street, the
former historic Red Light district. Watch as salmon head up the fish
ladder and struggle through the current to spawn.
You will also visit the famed Saxman Village, which is crowded with about
two-dozen totem poles. They were moved here from there original sites in
the 30's and have been restored by native carvers. Your guide will be able
to give you great insight into the background of the tribes and the ritual
of carving. No trip to Ketchikan can be complete without visiting the
Saxman Totem Village. This is Alaska’s only totem park with 29 authentic
totems carved by Tlingit and Haida natives.
This trip is fully escorted from the cruise ship pier.
